Kansas wraps up water plan implementation meetings

Two blocks of meetings were held across the Sunflower State to discuss the implementation of the Kansas Water Plan.

The Kansas Water Authority, Topeka, Kansas, concluded its second round of local consultation meetings regarding the Strategic Implementation Plan for the Kansas Water Plan. These meetings, held across the state from Sept. 17 to Sept. 30, provided a platform for state and local stakeholders to offer feedback on longterm water management strategies and potential funding mechanisms. 

Governor Laura Kelly initially tasked the KWA with developing this plan to address key issues such as aquifer depletion, reservoir sustainability and water quality. During these meetings, attendees participated in facilitated discussions focusing on updated investment scenarios and the criteria that will guide future water-related investments. Additionally, participants discussed measurable goals, timelines and potential revenue sources that could support the plan’s long-term objectives. 

The feedback gathered will inform the final recommendations that the KWA is set to present before the 2025 legislative session, emphasizing policy changes and enhancements in state water management capabilities.
