The USDA has given farmers more time to apply for Stages 1 and 2 of the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP) for eligible crop losses from natural disasters in 2023 and 2024. The new deadline is Sept. 30, 2026.

The program provides access to more than $16 billion in assistance for eligible revenue, production and quality losses involving crops, trees, bushes and vines. Stage 1 generally covers losses tied to federal crop insurance or the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, while Stage 2 addresses uninsured, shallow and quality-related losses.

USDA also expanded options for documenting quality losses. Producers may use verifiable, reliable third-party records, including grading information and nutrient test results, to demonstrate disaster-related reductions in crop value. The agency also added flexibility for crops that were ultimately sold for a different use than originally intended.

For more information on SDRP, visit fsa.usda.gov/sdrp. Producers can request an application or make an appointment online with their FSA county office.
