Keeping traditions alive

Editorial message | Spring 2022
BY KYLE BROWN

Kyle BrownIf any industry understands the value of maintaining a healthy respect for traditions, it’s the ag industry. With so many growers as the latest in a line of multigenerational ag professionals, it’s well-known that institutional knowledge can make a huge difference in a crop’s success. Looking back on how others have handled the same problems you’re dealing with from day to day is a useful resource, even if it’s used as a springboard for new approaches.

As I take over the reins as Irrigation Today’s editor-in-chief, that means taking the time to understand what makes this magazine so important for ag irrigation professionals. This publication has provided expert insights and voices from colleagues in the field who know what they’re talking about. I definitely intend to maintain that guideline to keep our content relevant and helpful to our readers.

Some of you have already shared in helping me get acclimated to our ag industry traditions by completing our reader survey. Whether you finished yours digitally or by mail, I want to thank you directly for taking a few minutes of your time to let us know what we’re doing that works best for you, and what you want to see from Irrigation Today going forward. I know it sometimes can feel you’re sending your opinion to wait somewhere in an inbox, but I guarantee that I personally read every single comment that’s come through the reader survey.

As far as making this transition goes, I’d especially like to thank our Editorial Committee, who are always willing to come together to find the right sources and people in the know to get the best insights on the newest technologies and practices, no matter how technical and complicated. And of course, many thanks to Anne Blankenbiller, our managing editor, whose patience and versatility have been key to getting this issue into your hands.

Heading into the new season, I’m looking forward to seeing how we’re able to build on the traditions that developed Irrigation Today by bringing together expert tips and insider knowledge. By sharing ag professionals’ best practices and insights, those traditions can fuel prosperity for growers everywhere.
