Google announced a $4 million investment in two large-scale water replenishment projects in North and South Carolina aimed at improving watershed health and agricultural water efficiency. Partnering with Arable Labs, the initiative is expected to conserve more than 500 million gallons of water over the next eight years by equipping local farmers with smart irrigation technology across 20,000 acres.
According to Google, Arable’s real-time data tools—measuring weather, soil moisture and crop health—will help growers make more precise irrigation decisions, reducing overall water use while improving resilience to drought and shifting climate patterns.
The effort supports Google’s broader water stewardship goal to replenish 120% of the freshwater it consumes by 2030.
