What does receiving this scholarship mean to you?
Receiving this scholarship has significant personal meaning to me because, as the daughter of a third-generation farmer, I understand how critically important irrigation is to rural agricultural communities. Reliable water resources are essential for crop production and the long-term success of family farms like mine. This scholarship will help me continue my education and pursue a career that supports water rights and the future of agriculture.
What are your future plans in the irrigation or broader industry?
While attending The College of Idaho, I plan to earn a degree in Accounting with a Pre-Law emphasis. After graduation, I intend to attend the University of Idaho, College of Law and focus my studies on water rights law. My ultimate goal is to advocate for rural communities and agricultural producers by helping protect and preserve the water resources that are vital to sustainable farming.
What sparked your interest in this field?
Growing up in a farming family gave me firsthand experience with the importance of water in agriculture. I saw every day how essential irrigation is to producing healthy crops and maintaining a successful operation. During times when water was limited, I became even more aware of the challenges farmers face and the need to protect these valuable resources.
What advice or encouragement would you give to others exploring this career path?
I would strongly encourage others to consider careers related to agriculture and water resources because these fields play a critical role in feeding a growing world. As populations increase and new industries place greater demands on water supplies, protecting water resources for agricultural use will become even more important. This career path offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on rural communities, food production, and future generations.
